Early last November, we said goodbye to one of our red foxes, Jasper. Jasper came to us from a private owner in Florida, who had to rehome him. Ever since then, Jasper has called Tiger Creek home, and passed at almost 9 years old.

A fluffy red fox stands on brown leaves, staring forward. The background is a sandy floor and a stone wall, creating an earthy atmosphere.

Although Jasper lacked the high energy he once had in his younger days, he was often eager to train and always pushed his limits. Keepers were often surprised at the milestones he would make in his training. Red foxes are normally very shy and timid by nature, but Jasper was a brave boy and progressed further than what was expected. Jasper seemed to come out of shell little by little, and grew more fond of building connections with his caretakers. Jasper participated in his own health care and never backed down from a challenge.

On a usual day, Jasper spent most of his time lounging and relaxing in his yard. He often interacted with his daily enrichment, especially if it had to do with his favorite treats or a novel smell. Jasper was also curious and was intrigued by the caretakers who visited him, often vocalizing. Red foxes make a variety of different noises in the wild, so we were lucky to get to experience a few.

Jasper was a testament of the love and care he received at Tiger Creek. We will miss his gentle energy and fluffy coat. It was an honor to care for him and watch him grow and evolve. Rest in peace, Jasper.
