Welcome to another episode of Meet the Residents! Today we share our male African Lion, Max.
Max found his home at Tiger Creek in August of 2014, at just 10 months old. Max's original owner planned to train him to work in the film industry. However, he was hired by a facility to work with their cats, which left him little time to train Max. This is where Tiger Creek comes into Max's story to provide a permanent home!
Now Max spends his days attempting to charm his girl next door, Luna, and lounging around his yard. He is definitely our loudest resident, announcing anytime he hears an 18 wheeler drive by the gates or when his keepers begin feeding out in the morning! Of course, Max's life is not all work ( its hard work to be as handsome as he is) and no play. After his keepers pick up his yard he gets to interact with his daily enrichment! Max's favorite enrichment item is a cardboard box. He will carry the box around his yard or atop his platform to show off his latest find, grumbling until his keepers tell him what a great job he did.

A lion's roar can be heard up to a 5 miles away, depending on terrain and other factors. Max greets us at 8 AM sharp, eagerly awaiting his breakfast, and he calls quitting time every evening with his loudest and proudest call. Max is a big flirt, always putting on a show for his keepers by rolling on his back to show how his impressive mane flows about. As our only male lion, Max is always a favorite on tours - and he knows it. We often have guests tell Max that he is their favorite animal, how handsome he is and if he would like to go home with them. While we don't recommend the last one, showering him with all the compliments you wish is highly encouraged! Not that he needs the ego boost - Max's self confidence is something we all wish to accomplish one day.
